The 90th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on 4 March in Los Angeles
Life, Daniel Espinosa’s chilling sci-fi film, has advanced to a shortlist of 20 movies in the running for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
AMPAS announced the preliminary shortlist on 4 December ahead of deciding on the ten films that will advance to nomination votes later in December.
The full list at this stage is as follows:
Alien: Covenant, Beauty and the Beast, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, Ghost in the Shell, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Justice League, Kong: Skull Island, Life, Logan, Okja, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, The Shape of Water, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Thor: Ragnarok.
As you can see, it’s a really strong category this year, but we’re really pleased to hear that Life has made it to this stage and could certainly progress further.
We delivered over 100 shots for the film, including complex 3D set extension work, tricky wire removal and the zero-gravity yo-yo sequence.
You can read more over at Variety, and keep an eye out for information on the ten films that progress to nominations voting later this month.
